Institution...

Even though most artists think that it is key to have a major label or producer to help them become established, this is not always the case. With Web 2.0 artists are able to manage themselves, but it helps for them to start off under a big label and then break off onto their own. This is because they are already established and have a professional feel for the music industry, and then when they go to work on their own they can have more freedom and don't feel the need to meet specific demands. An example of a band who have done this is McFly. They were part of Island records for 4 years and then they created their own record label called Super Records which they now use as their main record comany.

To present and promote a new artist, one of the key elements is having a well established institution. Therefore, we think that EMI one of the largest music organisations would be appropriate. However, we still want to incorporate the British feel for our artist to ensure that we are catering for our target audience who still have niche characteristics. Parlophone Records, best known for having artists such as The Beatles, Lilly Allen and The Beatles is a UK based record label under the EMI institution and specialise in the Jazz and Folk genre - similar to our audience.
